Pleural Diseases
Dr Panchal is an expert in the diagnosis, investigation and management of pleural effusions (fluid around the lung) and pneumothorax (collapsed lung). Dr Panchal performs thoracic ultrasound to assess the degree of the fluid around the lung. He is also skilled in medical thoracoscopy (insertion of a camera to investigate the cause of the fluid), the insertion of chest drains (to drain fluid) and management of fluid recurrence via indwelling pleural catheters (semi-permanent drains).
Interventional Bronchoscopy
Dr Panchal is the lead clinician for respiratory bronchoscopy and an expert in Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) bronchoscopy that involves the biopsy of intra-thoracic lymph nodes for the rapid diagnosis and staging of both malignant (e.g lung cancer and metastatic cancer) and non-malignant conditions (e.g. sarcoidosis, TB). Dr Panchal performs Private EBUS procedures at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester
